Bio:

Kim’s childhood explorations of her family farm gave her a lengthy connection to the landscape. The simplicity of the landscape near her home in Manhattan, KS, has helped her focus on strong design in a composition. Kim is a Master-Signature Member of the American Women Artists and a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America. Her painting, Oxbow Triptych, received the Superintendent’s Award at the 2018 Plein Air for the Park in the Grand Tetons and is in its permanent collection.

Artist's Statement:

I divide my time between the studio and painting outdoors en plein air. I feel strongly that plein air gives me valuable insight when working on larger pieces, and therefore I keep outdoor studies as reference. The light, shadows, wind, rain, sun, and how I felt – these are all important notes to capture. I work to command color, light and atmosphere in order to elicit an emotional response. Even though it takes time for each painting to reach its full potential, I keep the brushwork fresh and the outdoor studies close in order to remind myself of that spontaneity.

Winning the Purchase Award has such enormous significance for me, it’s every artist’s dream to be in a museum and my work, Lee’s Ferry Landing, will be at the Tucson Desert Art Museum for as long as I live. I’m so thankful to the American Women Artists for that opportunity.”
