The Latest from American Women Artists

Carrie Waller Abundance

As a part of our Symposium on Women in the Arts, AWA presents a pastel demonstration featuring Signature Member & AWA Board Secretary, Lisa Gleim. Lisa has been working with this medium for over 20 years and specializes in charcoal, pastel, and oil portraits of children, pets, and portrait commissions. She has artwork in both public and private collections across the country.  Lisa’s painting, The Secret Keepers won a Museum Purchase Prize from the Booth Western Art Museum in AWA’s Making Their Mark virtual exhibition in 2020.

Recently, Lisa has been focusing more on wildlife and feels pastels lend well to creating texture within the fur and coats of the animals. In this demonstration, Lisa shares information about materials, techniques, and her process as she works on a pastel painting of a bear.

Made possible by the generosity of our Symposium on Women in Arts benefactor Edmund S. Twining III.
