Kate Palmer
Glimpse of Old Santa Fe, oil, 16″ x 16″

Bio:
Kate Palmer has a gift for capturing intimate glimpses of her environment, rendering atmospherics and mood with expressive brushwork. From her home in the foothills of Santa Fe, she finds rich variety in her everyday painting range from Taos to the Galisteo Basin. Palmer also has “painting homes” – from the Monterey coast and the Colorado Rockies to favorite villages in Tuscany and France – to which she returns again and again, internalizing her experiences to draw upon later in the studio. She savors both the immediacy of painting outdoors and the contemplative nature of larger studio work.
Artist's Statement:
I paint what I love: land, sea and sky – this natural world is the wellspring of my inspiration. I find solace and contentment being outdoors and an indescribable pleasure capturing my experience there in luscious oil paints. Initially, I work intuitively, establishing the rhythm of the piece and its abstract base in loose patches of color and patterns of light and dark that will remain its foundation. Each painting then tells me how much to develop it further. My goal is to share the magic of the scene in a painting that conveys what I saw and felt.

Winning the Purchase Award has such enormous significance for me, it’s every artist’s dream to be in a museum and my work, Lee’s Ferry Landing, will be at the Tucson Desert Art Museum for as long as I live. I’m so thankful to the American Women Artists for that opportunity.”
