High Country Autumn, Rocky Mt. National Park, oil, 26″ x 36″
Karen was born in Chicago into the Swartwout family of artists. Her upbringing, university education, and private art studies brought her a 12-year career as a graphic designer/illustrator and 35 years making her living as a fine artist. Her award-winning paintings are found in many private, corporate, and museum collections.
Art is another language. My subject matter, landscape, is my platform for this communication. The orchestration of line, shape, color, texture, edges and tonal value, conveys a visual message from my heart. This expression heals my soul, and hopefully other souls too
Master-Signature Member of American Women Artists and the Plein Air Artists of Colorado; Emeritus Signature Member of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters; Inaugural Signature Member of American Tonalist Society
Winning the Purchase Award has such enormous significance for me, it’s every artist’s dream to be in a museum and my work, Lee’s Ferry Landing, will be at the Tucson Desert Art Museum for as long as I live. I’m so thankful to the American Women Artists for that opportunity.”
