EXHIBITION DETAIL 

The American Women Artists’ annual online juried competition is open to all levels of AWA membership. AWA will distribute over $10,000 in cash awards. Selected artists are also eligible for in-kind awards, including advertisements, art materials, and subscriptions from AWA’s generous donors. In addition to cash and in-kind awards – including a $2,000 cash Grand Prize award – approximately 120 works selected will appear on AWA’s online gallery for an entire year, be featured in our monthly digital magazine, and be promoted through AWA’s social media channels. Jurors are award-winning artists and include Gladys Roldan-de-Moras, a Prix de West award-winning artist known for her paintings of Spanish culture; Kathrine Lemke Waste, former AWA President and California contemporary realist painter; and Louise Solecki Weir, world renowned Canadian sculptor. 

American Women Artists is dedicated to the inspiration, celebration, and encouragement of women in the visual Fine Arts. As part of our mission, AWA not only increases the visibility of women’s art in museums across the U.S., but also offers financial support, recognizing mastery in the field. AWARD INFORMATION

Gladys Roldan-de-Moras

Born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, Gladys Roldan-de-Moras is known for paintings that chronicle and cast a colorful spotlight on the exuberant Hispanic culture and its eclectic traditions and plenteous history. Her talent has secured her work in numerous private and public permanent collections, both nationally and internationally. Gladys’ striking, romantic art has been featured in numerous worldwide publications. Gladys has the unique distinction of being the first Mexican-born artist to be invited to the Prix de West and the first woman to win the prestigious Frederic Remington Painting Award in her debut year at the exhibition.

Kathrine Lemke Waste

Kathrine Lemke Waste is a California-based artist whose works explore the artifacts of modern culture along with the agricultural abundance of her home in the Central Valley. “Waste’s visually poetic images have often been described as ‘luminous.’ Her works are distinctive in the way they capture light and reflections,” writes Bonnie Gangelhoff of her work in Southwest Art Magazine. “Simple, ordinary objects are transformed through her imaginative eye.” Kathrine was a weekly visual columnist for the Sacramento Bee, has been featured in American Art Collector Magazine and Southwest Art and is a Heritage Circle Member, Master Signature Member, and Past President of American Women Artists.   

Louise Solecki Weir

Louise Solecki Weir is a Canadian artist whose work uses the human form to express emotion, the psyche, and connectedness. With a background in visual arts, portraiture, dance, music, art therapy and forensic approximation, her multidisciplinary training informs her sensitive and expressive approach towards sculpting.  Weir’s work has earned national and international recognition, including major awards from the American Portrait Society and the National Sculpture Society.  Her figures, both classical and contemporary, invite viewers to reflect on the shared experience of being human.
