AWA Webinar: Cheryl Newby: The Gallery-Artist Relationship

May 9 • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join long-time AWA Patron Cheryl Newby as she shares her take on the gallery-artist relationship after expanding from being a collector to 38 years of owning and operating her highly successful Cheryl Newby Gallery before selling the business and retiring in 2021. Newby managed the sales, marketing, inventory, artist representations, and customer relationships that go along with the business of selling art. Artists included members of the National Academy of Design, National Sculpture Society, American Women Artists, Oil Painters of America, and the American Watercolor Society. At the time of Newby’s retirement, she represented twelve painters, six sculptors (four of whose works are in the permanent collection of Brookgreen Gardens), and one ceramic artist from throughout the United States.

Newby remains committed to the arts through her active involvement in and giving to AWA and the NSS. She has previously held roles including Chair of the Board of Visitors for the Edwards School of Humanities and Fine Arts, Coastal Carolina University, Board Member of Myrtle Beach Art Museum, Board Member of Friends of Brookgreen Gardens, and NSS Board Member Newby was awarded the 2024 Anna Hyatt Huntington Woman of Vision Award presented by Brookgreen Gardens.

The 2024 AWA Webinar Series is generously sponsored by Edmund S. Twining III
