Barbara Buhler Lynes, PhD presented
“Georgia O’Keeffe: Personal and Professional”
AWA was fortunate to benefit from a private event hosted by Master-Signature artist and Board member Diana Reuter-Twining in October in beautiful Virginia. Local art supporters and Board members who attended were treated to a fascinating talk by renowned scholar Barbara Buhler Lynes, PhD titled “Georgia O’Keeffe: Personal and Professional”. Dr. Lynes was the founding curator of the Georgia O’Keeffe museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico and has published numerous papers and books on the artist including the 1999 Catalogue Raisonne. AWA Board member Jann Gilmore, PhD was instrumental in making the event happen through her connection with Dr. Lynes.
Attendees also enjoyed a wonderful lunch, the gorgeous setting, unique fall decor, and a tour of Diana’s studio. They all received a copy of the catalog from the AWA 2022 Customs House Museum exhibition and learned about the AWA mission and goals. We are grateful for the effort and enthusiasm shown by all involved. We have received donations as a result of the event and made many new friends we hope will be part of the AWA journey for years to come.
One attendee exclaimed that “every one of these artists deserves to be famous” after reviewing the catalog. We couldn’t agree more.
