American Women Artists offers opportunities, camaraderie and support for women artists.
Associate Artist Members
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS DIRECTORY
Associate Artist Memberships are $60 per year and open to women artists, 18 years of age or older, living and working in the United States, Canada or Mexico. Women who draw, paint or sculpt in a representational style-either with a contemporary or traditional approach-are welcome and encouraged to apply for membership. As a benefit of membership, associate artists are eligible to apply for annual national juried competitions and online juried shows. They receive a free listing linked to their website on the AWA website. They also receive discounts on AWA workshops and other events.
Some mediums and genres are not accepted in our annual member shows and national juried exhibitions at fine art museums and galleries. Work can be representational or abstract; we cannot accept photography, craft, jewelry, fiber and textile art, collage, any sort of digitally derived work, reproduction of any kind into these exhibitions at this time.
However, acceptable mediums for membership and our online juried shows are a bit more open. We have several members who work in a wider variety of mediums, such as assemblage, batik, mosaic and printmaking; our online juried show prospectus lists a larger list of acceptable mediums for entry eligibility. If you wish to join AWA to be affiliated with this growing group of artists, your name, an image of your work, and website URL will be listed on our Associate membership directory, as a benefit of membership. We also have plans in the works for online shows that would showcase a wider variety of mediums, in the coming years. As AWA continues to evolve and grow, we will explore more inclusive and active acceptance of other mediums.
Our membership year runs from January 1-December 31, but artists are welcome to join at any time during the year. Please note however, that AWA doesn’t prorate dues for mid-year memberships. Annual renewal invoices are emailed to members in November and can be paid electronically by credit card or Pay Pal, or a check can be mailed to: P.O. Box 755, Lodi, CA. 95241. For questions, email us at membership@americanwomenartists.org.

General Membership
MEMBERSHIP LEAVE OF ABSENCE POLICY
Members maintain their membership status in AWA by keeping current with their dues. Sometimes, however, life gets in the way of art and a member might need to take a Leave of Absence. With Board approval, AWA allows one Leave of Absence without a member losing their level of membership. By “level of membership” we mean designations like “Signature” or “Master Signature” member. If the member is on a Leave of Absence, she may not participate in any AWA shows or exhibitions during her leave year. She will continue to appear in the membership directory on the AWA website during her leave year. Members must contact AWA (membership@americanwomenartists.org) and let us know about the leave, by January 30th of the year the leave will be taken.
If there are extenuating circumstances, like serious health issues, for example, the member can petition the Board of Directors to extend the leave of absence without impacting her level of membership. All decisions by the Board are final. Unless the Board approves an additional extension beyond one year, members lose their membership status. Lapsed members are welcome to rejoin at the Associate or Associate with Distinction membership level, depending on her exhibition history with AWA.
The Board reserves the right to remove a member for unprofessional conduct.
