RS Hanna Show Report by Robin Knowlton
A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE: AMERICAN WOMEN ARTISTS AT THE RS HANNA GALLERY in Fredericksburg, TX, had a busy November 1 reception, thanks to the hard work of gallery owner Shannon Hanna and AWA’s Show Chair, Christine Drewyer. The exhibition consists of approximately 101 works for sale.
AWA Master Member Denise LaRue Malhke taught a workshop through the gallery and there were live art demonstrations going on during the day of the reception with Burneta Venosdel, Katherine Galbraith, Denise LaRue Mahlke, Sarah Webber. Katherine Galbraith very generously donated her piece “Courtyard Charm,” that was raffled off during the reception. Bodie the gallery dog stole the show as he posed for Burneta Venosdel and she sculpted him live. In case you missed that performance, it is still available on AWA’s FB and Instagram.
Prior to the show, AWA organized a two-day food-art-culture tour of San Antonio with Julia Celeste of Food Chick Tours. This was an outstanding introduction to the uniqueness of South Texas. San Antonio has a lively food scene, countless museums, and their early Franciscan Missions are one of only 10 cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the United States.
At the end of the tour the group was treated to a special visit to AWA Master Member Gladys Roldan-de-Moras’ new studio in San Antonio. Gladys was a gracious host and invited several regional artists to join us for a warm reception.
The exhibition at the RS Hanna Gallery would not have been possible without patron underwriting from AWA Signature Member Ann Self. Our sincere thanks go out to the many volunteers who assisted with the show, and to Ann Self, Christine Drewyer, Shannon Hanna, and Gladys Roldan-de-Moras for making this a memorable AWA event!
