AWA’s 2016 Annual Member Show & National Juried Exhibition will be hosted at the Bennington Center of the Arts in Bennington, Vermont from September 23 – November 13, 2016. We are happy to announce our Show Committee Chairperson Signature Member Diana Reuter-Twining.
Diana grew up in Washington D.C. and had the opportunity to visit many museums and galleries frequently – developing an appreciation for art. She studied Art History at Hollins College in Paris, France and later, earned her Masters of Architecture from Catholic University.
The segue from her career as an architect to sculpting seemed natural for Diana. She credits her studies at the Scottsdale Artist’s School as the most valuable in her sculpting career.
“So many of the instructors are practicing professionals and so willing to share their knowledge with you – I’ve never had a bad class there,” Diana says.
Diana was introduced to American Women Artists by Board Member and fellow sculptor Diane Mason, when the two of them took a class together almost 20 years ago. She began following the work of other members and sees a real need for an organization like AWA to provide a voice for women artists.
“Women artists are not heard from as much as men, and they really should be, this can be frustrating for artists,” Diana says, “it’s a very narrow market and I always suggest that new artists figure out their market and target galleries who support and have a passion for their work – don’t try to be everything to everyone.”
Diana’s role as Show Committee Chairperson will first focus on our magazine advertising opportunities program. She will act as an additional contact between the host venue, show committee members and event organizers. She and the show committee will assist in coordination of show events and communications between AWA staff, vendors, and our host venue. Diana will need other volunteers to help her on the show committee, anyone interested please email contact@americanwomenartists.org.
